frequently asked questions

what should I expect at max velocity workouts?

Our signature programming combines functional movements, high-intensity intervals, constantly varied movements, strength training, and kettlebell conditioning for the best total body workouts you will experience.

Functional movements just mean exercises that mimic everyday life, think squatting (sitting), deadlifting (picking something up), pressing, and pulling. High intensity means moving in all-out effort for short periods of time followed by short periods of rest. This type of training is proven to work more than anything else. Intensity is defined by each individual person, so everyone’s max effort is different. This will provide the results you are looking for.

You may notice our interval training a little different than some other programs out there. Many workouts will be team structured which has led to more max intensity and efficiency.

do I need prior experience to take classes?

Not at all. In fact, we welcome new members to participate. The beauty of functional movements is that all exercises are based on movements that you already do. Exercises are scaled to inspire the beginner and challenge the most elite athlete.

do I have to be in shape to take classes?

No. Really. There is a common misconception that high-intensity workouts are for elite athletes. The truth is that it is for everyone. And, if you stay on our path it's likely that you will get into the best physical, emotional, and psychological shape of your life.

should I warm up and stretch before class?

We always have a warmup session before the workout. If you find yourself with a little extra time before or after class, feel free to start warming up on your own, practice skills, or just socialize. All we ask is that you come in ready to do some work! everyone’s max effort is different. This will provide the results you are looking for.

do you recommend training daily?

Maximum benefits are derived from intensity and recovery. And the varied programming means no two classes are alike. We do recommend that you take time to recover by listening to your body. This will prevent injury and backsliding from over-training. At a minimum, we want you in 3 to 4 days per week.
Your success matters to us, and the only way to achieve that is if you come in.

what can I expect after my first max velocity workout?

You will feel successful and part of a community of athletes, many of whom you did NOT expect to be your athletes. You'll have a better understanding of how classes are run and the method behind what we do. And it's likely you will have learned new things, be a little bit "sore" and excited to come back for more.
